About

Karsten Liske started creating film works in 2001 with his documentary “Alexanderplatz 4” about the former socialist 'House of Teachers' at Alexanderplatz in Berlin.

For “augnablik” he worked with Canadian dancer Luc Dunberry, Icelandic choreographer Erna Ómarsdóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson for the musical score. “augnablik” was filmed on Iceland in 2005 and nominated for best film at KunstFilm Biennale in Cologne 2005.

“história“ was developed as a conceptual work with the Portuguese dancer Claudia de Serpa Soares in 2007. The film was shot in Lisbon and Berlin and won the best film award at the Napoli Danza festival in Naples, Italy 2008.

„In Between“ was filmed during a research process between 2008 and 2012 in Jerusalem, Rome and Istanbul. It premiered on June 28th 2012 at Babylon Cinema Berlin within the New German Cinema Program.

„Wood People“ was developed in 2015 as video installation with the Canadian performers Simon-Xavier Lefebvre, Neil Sochasky and Andrew Turner. “Wood People” A visual Triptych composition on lumberjacks and their physical work.

In addition Karsten filmed several stage productions as cinematographer since 2010 for Sasha Waltz & Guests and the Opera Brussels, La Monnaie, such as „Sacre“ by Sasha Waltz and „Shell Shock“ by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui / Nicolas Lens / Nick Cage.

Karsten was born in Holzminden, Germany and lives in Berlin since 1999.
